VACANCY NOTICE

FULL-TIME ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Sanford School District is accepting applications for a full-time Athletic Director. The position has been expanded from a part-time assignment to a full-time position with salary and benefits. The district is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and student-centered leader who will provide consistent direction and oversight for Sanford’s junior high and high school athletic programs. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a visible presence at athletic events, support coaches and student-athletes, promote sportsmanship, ensure compliance with district and CHSAA requirements, and help create a positive athletic experience for students, families, staff, and the community.

Primary Responsibilities

The Athletic Director will be responsible for the duties identified in the district’s Athletic Director job description, including:

• Providing leadership and oversight for all district athletic programs.

• Ensuring compliance with CHSAA regulations, district policies, eligibility requirements, and applicable laws.

• Coordinating athletic schedules, officials, transportation, facilities, event workers, and game-day operations.

• Recruiting, supporting, supervising, and evaluating coaches in collaboration with district administration.

• Maintaining accurate athletic records, rosters, eligibility documentation, budgets, inventories, and reports.

• Communicating effectively with coaches, students, parents, administrators, opposing schools, officials, and community members.

• Attending and supervising home athletic events and providing appropriate crowd control and event management.

• Promoting student safety, sportsmanship, accountability, and high expectations throughout the athletic program.

• Assisting with athletic awards, banquets, postseason activities, and other program related events.

• Performing other duties as assigned by the superintendent or building administration.

Because this is a full-time position, additional responsibilities will be assigned based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and the needs of the district. These responsibilities may include serving as an attendance officer, substitute teacher, student supervisor, activities coordinator, or in another district support role.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will demonstrate:

• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

• Knowledge of school athletics, CHSAA regulations, and athletic eligibility requirements.

• Experience working with coaches, students, parents, and school administrators.

• The ability to manage multiple schedules, events, deadlines, and responsibilities.

• A commitment to student safety, sportsmanship, academic success, and positive school culture.

• The ability to handle difficult conversations and resolve concerns professionally.

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and postseason events as required.

• Appropriate Colorado licensure or authorization for any additional assigned duties, when applicable.

Previous experience as an athletic director, coach, teacher, administrator, or in a related school leadership position is preferred.

Employment Information

Position: Full-Time Athletic Director

Salary: Starting at $44,516, based on the district’s certified base salary schedule, with consideration given to applicable education and experience

Benefits: Full district benefits package

Work Schedule: Full-time position requiring regular daytime responsibilities and attendance at evening, weekend, and postseason athletic events
