Basketball Game Expectations & Student Safety

Dear Sanford Community,

We are grateful for the tremendous support you show our student-athletes at basketball games. The energy, pride, and school spirit you bring truly make our home games a great experience for our players and coaches.

As we continue our season, we would like to share a few reminders to help ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for everyone in attendance.

Student Supervision
• Children attending games remain the responsibility of their parents or guardians.
• All elementary students attending games must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• If an elementary student arrives at the gate without adult supervision, the student will be asked to wait at the gate while a parent or guardian is contacted.
• Students who are outside during games without supervision pose a safety and liability concern. While we do have staff members circulating throughout the building and campus, we do not have the level of supervision needed to allow students to play outside unsupervised during events.

Gym Floor Care
Our gym floor was recently refinished, and we would like to keep it in great condition for our student-athletes.
• Between games, students should not be on the court, as the floor will be swept.
• After the final game of the evening, students may use the gym floor only if they are wearing tennis shoes.

Safety and Facilities
In the past, we have experienced concerns such as students running on cafeteria tables, pouring water on sidewalks that later freeze and create hazards, and leaving messes in restrooms that add extra work for our custodial staff. We ask for your help in reinforcing respectful behavior and care for our facilities.

Facility Cleanliness
We also kindly ask fans to help by throwing away trash at the conclusion of games. This small effort is a huge time-saver and help to our custodial staff. Thank you in advance for assisting with this, and a sincere thank you to those who have already helped with trash at recent games—it is truly appreciated.

Our hope is that you understand these expectations are not meant to take anything away from your children, but rather to keep students safe and protect our facilities. We appreciate your partnership in helping us create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone.

Finally, we encourage continued great sportsmanship. We love enthusiastic fans—please cheer loudly and proudly, while keeping it positive and respectful.

Thank you again for the support you show our athletes, our staff, and our school.

Go Mustangs!

Sincerely,
Joe Cary
