Mrs. Sowards' Fourth Grade

Fall Field Trip

Our class traveled to the Sowards‘ cabin in two separate buses; we all enjoyed it very much. When we got to the mountains, we got off the buses to hike our way to the cabin. Once we arrived at the cabin, we set up chairs and ate the lunches we had brought along with us. After we ate our lunch, we went into the trees to have some fun, where Mrs. Sowards‘ husband, James, helped us create forts and teepees that had their own names. If you would have seen it, you would have thought it was a tiny village. After we built our forts, we all played a game of tag. We all had a splendid time at the Sowards‘ cabin.

Accelerated Math

One of the best subjects we have done this year is Accelerated Math. These are some of the things we do in Accelerated Math. Our teachers help us by calling us over in groups or one by one. We also have di-agnostics to help people in the class. We do tests in class and practice assignments at home. As you can tell, we work hard every day, and sometimes it turns out to be like play. We also have learned many things from Accelerated Math. Accelerated Math is the best subject ever!

Junior Carnival

One of the best things we did in 4th grade was a crazy, unbelievable, insane Junior Carnival. This year we had a barrel bull, a fortune telling gypsy, and wheelchair races. As always, there were games like the cake walk, the pop ring toss, darts, ping pong throw and football throw. Some people even used tickets to buy cot-ton candy, pop and popcorn. Junior Carnival was a fun way to get ready for Thanksgiving Break, and we look forward to it next year, too.

Math Facts

One of the most challenging things we do this year is math facts. We only get two minutes to finish one sheet of fifty multiplication problems. Some people are blowing through fast, while others are making slower progress. You have to get them all right to pass. We go all the way to 12 twice; then we move on to the next thing…division. Division is hard, but we are getting the hang of it. Once you finish division, you go to mixed multiplication, then mixed division. We are all learning to know our math facts quickly.

Christmas Operetta

This year the Christmas Operetta is going to be big. We are all going to love it. We enjoy practicing our songs to get ready. It will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Mrs. Valen-tine has done a great job putting it together. The 3rd and 4th grade girls are angels, and the boys are snowmen. We hope you come to see it.
