News from Mr. Judd
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The Zeros Aren‘t Permitted (ZAP) program is being implemented to help ensure the success of each student at Sanford Junior/Senior High School. We want students to be successful in their academic endeavors while at Sanford and beyond.
Students should take responsibility and be accountable for their school work. This program helps students keep from falling behind with their school work. This program also keeps them on task and ensures their progress toward academic achievement. It also pro-vides parents with immediate feedback when their child does not complete his or her homework.
Research indicates that this type of program assists schools and students in maintaining higher GPAs, reduce drop-out rates, and also reduce the need for credit recovery. This program is contingent upon a successful partnership between teachers, parents, and administrators. If we work together and support one another the success of our students will become apparent.

Outline of the ZAP Program:
Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. TRANSPORTATION WILL NOT BE PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
ZAP is for homework only, not in class assignments, or detention for misbehavior.
If a student finishes his or her homework the night notices are sent home he or she may be ex-cused from ZAP the following day by:
Having his or her parent/guardian sign their ZAP pass confirming the homework was com-pleted and reviewed by the parent/guardian at home.
The student must return the signed form and completed homework to the Activities Of-fice (Mrs. Duran) prior to 5th hour.
IF BOTH OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET, THE STUDENT MUST ATTEND ZAP.
Students who were absent to class will be given the allotted time before being zapped. Since this is difficult to track, teachers have the discretion of zapping a student at their discretion; how-ever, no zero should be entered for a homework assignment until the student has been zapped.
Students must report to the ZAP room by 4:10 to avoid receiving detention and/or Friday School for non-compliance.
During ZAP there will be no electronic devices permitted. All school rules will apply to the ZAP period.
When an assignment is missing the teacher will give the student a ZAP ―pass. This serves as a warning that the assignment is missing and he or she must turn the work in by the next day or be required to remain after school for the ZAP period. The ZAP pass should be signed by the parent indicating that they are aware of the missing work.
ZAP students will be supervised in a classroom to complete the work and turn it in before they leave.
If a student is unable to attend a ZAP period (by parent excuse) the parent should contact the school at (719) 274-5167 prior to 3:00 to make alternative arrangements.
