Sanford School Community,

Today a decision was made to extend the closure of school and all school activities through April 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This was a difficult decision and we fully understand this may present many difficulties for families.  It is important that as a school district, we do our part to decrease the rate at which COVID-19 is spread to assist in alleviating the burden upon on hospitals health care facilities. Our plan as a school district is to continue to provide education in an alternative manner.  This may look different for each student age group but our goal is keep students on an academic path of progress and growth through this worldwide crisis.

Sanford School staff will be meeting Monday to discuss various options and means by which a continuance of education may be provided.  In the days to come we will continue to provide information on how this will be made available.  We are exploring many viable options at this time that may include packets that are dropped off and picked up for our elementary students.  We will be relying heavily on technology and the internet for connectivity for grades 7-12.  We understand that not all students have internet and so other options will also need to be made available.  Our plan is to have our teachers and staff continue to provide the education and services that can be accomplished in a safe and healthy manner.  Parents and students should expect communication early next week concerning how education will be delivered.  We are exploring methods to provide a pick up service of breakfast and lunch for students who depend on the school for daily meals. Please know that student and staff health and well being are at the heart of this decision.

As I continue to work with state and local leaders and listen to health departments, circumstances and solutions to our present problem may indeed change.  I will keep you notified of these changes as they affect the education of our students.  I know this is a stressful time for our community but I am confident that by working together we can find viable solutions that will keep us moving forward in this uncertain time.  Please stay healthy and safe and I will be in touch soon.

Sincerely,

Kevin Edgar
