Veterans Day Commemoration

The Sanford School District put on an amazing Veterans Day Presentation for the local community on Thursday, November 10th, 2010. It started out with a word of prayer by the Student Council Co-vice president, Ashley Miller. Ashley was then followed by Student Council President Kelly Crowther’s welcome. She read an excellent piece by The American Legion of God and Country that welcomed the community and thanked them for coming. After Kelly, Ty Canty, Taylor Weaver, Griffin Peterson, and Miles Caldon, some of our local Boy Scouts, posted our Nation’s and Colorado’s colors in front of the audience, who then joined the Scouts in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. After everyone was seated, our National Honor Society’s Co-presidents, Michelle Crowther and Amberly Edgar, read a quote by Jim Rohn in salute to our veterans. They handed out certificates to all the veterans in the audience. The audience was treated to many beautiful musical numbers including the high school choir singing our Nation’s National Anthem, the 6th grade choir singing Thank a Vet, Kaylee Sutherland singing God Bless the USA, the 5th grade choir singing Salute to our Heroes, the junior high choir singing Lady Liberty, and Chelsea Tailleur singing America the Beautiful, all directed by the District’s music teacher, Tami Valentine. Student Council/NHS then presented an outstanding slide show put together with much help from Mrs. Edgar. The slide show displayed a number of pictures from past wars and many quotes, dialogues, etc. Anika Arellano followed the presentation by singing God Bless America. The presentation was concluded by Student Council’s treasurer, Chris Petty, with a closing word of prayer. Sanford Schools would like to thank all the veterans, past and present, who have given or are giving their lives for our freedom.
