Sanford Student Council helped everyone celebrate National Clean Hands Week during the week of September 19-22. The preschool-6th grade students attended presentations and learned about germs, the simple spread of germs, and an effective way to wash their hands to prevent the spread of germs. School Nurse Crystal Peterson and Student Council members Michelle Crowther, Mason Larsen, and Kelly Crowther gave presentations that showed kids how to properly wash their hands. They also taught the kids to PDI (Protect Don’t Infect), and the kids pledged to be PDI agents. Michelle, Mason, and Kelly did a germ experiment where they put special lotion on their hands and gave all the kids high fives. Then, the kids put their hands under black lights to see how many germs they were carrying around with them just via high fives. The students were amazed to see how many germs had spread so quickly. After the presentations, all students were more aware of germs, the spread of germs, and how to wash their hands more effectively. They all agreed that they are going to try to, “knock out germs,” from here on out.
Throughout the week posters adorned to school walls encouraging everyone to wash his/her hands. This week of awareness was definitely needed at a time when germs were spreading rapidly. Student Council hopes that their efforts were well-received by all. Remember: Washing your hands is the number one way to prevent the spread of germs...Just wash!
