Red Ribbon Week October 24th-27th, 2011

Student Council hosted Red Ribbon Week on October 24-27th. Student Council members presented to all of the elementary classes about being drug free, saying NO to drugs, and avoiding other harmful substances such as cigarettes and alcohol. Dress up days coordinated with the days of the week. On Monday, students were asked to wear a hat to “Put a Cap on Drugs.” On Tuesday, students dressed from head to toe in black to “Black out Drugs.” Wednesday was “Sock and Tie up Drugs” day, and students came in crazy socks and ties to show their spirit.  Thursday was the traditional “Wear Red and Pledge” day in support of Red Ribbon Week. The preschool-2nd graders participated in a coloring contest, and the 3rd-6th graders participated in a poster contest. The winners were as follows:

Preschool- Riley Willett
Kindergarten- Brecken Crowther
1st Grade- Justin McCarroll
2nd Grade-Riley Canty
3rd Grade-Omar Guerrero
4th Grade- Joel Maestas
5th Grade-Lacey McCarroll
6th Grade- Morgan Edwards

The winners of the dress up week were 1st grade in the elementary with 75% participation the entire week; the juniors won at the secondary level with 94% dress-up participation throughout the entire week. They will each receive ice-cream parties courtesy of Student Council. Everyone pledged to be drug-free, and the pledges were hanged on a pledge banner in the high school lobby for all to see. The posters and coloring pages were hanged in the halls for viewing. Overall, the week was a great success. Way to go Sanford Schools!
