Toys for Tots

On November 11 to December 15, 2011, the Sanford Elementary and Secondary Schools, the Just Dance program, and the Sanford community participated in a toy drive for the Ronald McDonald House. It was very successful. Makenna Canty, under the direction of Mrs. Bond, decided to plan and implement a Toys for Tots Drive as her National Honor Society 50-hour service project. She planned for it, contacted to Ronald McDonald House and made arrangements, created toy gathering boxes for each classroom, and set up a display tree in the office where she counted and kept all of the toys. We were able to gather a total 617 toys. They were delivered to the Ronald McDonald House on December 17, 2011, where the deliverers were met with “Holy Cows” and “Thank you’s!” The volunteers at the House couldn’t believe a community as small as ours could gather so many toys. They were very thankful for the large assortment of toys that we donated. The winning class of the cookie party was the kindergarten with 114 toys. They were presented with a certificate at the operetta. They will receive a cookie party sometime next semester. Way to go all involved, and way to go kindergarteners! What a great service to all those involved. Great job Makenna Canty!
