Kids' Health Fair

Power ^ to the ChallengeEat Healthy:
There are many small adjustments that will help you create a healthy diet.
Bake or grill instead of fry
Substitute water or low-fat milk for sugar-sweetened drinks
Switch desserts like ice cream and cake for fruit based desserts

Did you know that one in three American children is overweight or obese? It is quite alarming to know that one third of the children born in the year 2000 or later will suffer from obesity related health problems at some point in their life. This generation is the first generation projected to live a shorter life than its parents’ generation due to the unhealthy lifestyles many of us are guilty of leading. FCCLA is challenging you all to make a difference by creating and maintaining healthy diets and exercising regularly.

PORTION CONTROL:
Many portions today are super-sized. Remember that a good sized portion for everyone is about the size of the back of your fist.

EAT TOGETHER:
Family meals offer a time to spend quality time together. Regularly scheduled meals help kids learn structure for eating.

Get Active:
Adults should exercise for 30 minutes a day.  Children and teenagers should exercise for 60 minutes a day.
Walk or ride a bike to your destination when possible
Join a sports or recreation team
Break up T.V. time by doing jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, stretching, jogging in place, or dancing during commercials.

Make Healthy Choices:
Stay away from anything that may cause harm to your body such as drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
Remember . . . stay active, eat healthy, and make good choices to maintain a healthy lifestyle!
