Lady Indian Basketball

Winter brings an exciting time and season for the Lady Indians of Sanford.  We have had some good experiences and games mixed with a few long travel trips.  Overall, our past month has been rewarding for our teams.  We could have skipped some of the challenges of injuries to players and wish them well with their recoveries.  We have also had some other athletes step it up or step in to help the team fill these gaps.  We have been working on improving our play each day and carrying that knowledge over to game situations.  The JV is undefeated in league games and looks to keep the streak alive this weekend.  The varsity is currently standing with an overall record of 15-2 and is tied for first place in the league.  The League Champion will be decided this Friday as we travel to SDC.  We will then play a non-league game on Saturday vs. Pagosa Springs in Sanford to get ready for the upcoming District Tournament.  It looks to be an exciting tournament, and we wish all the players great success and want to thank the fans and community members for all of their support of the Lady Indians Basketball Team.

Girls' Basketball

The Lady Indians have had a successful season thus far and feel that they will continue to do so. They had a record of two for three at the La Junta Holiday Shootout finishing with a Consolation Championship. As they participated in the Alamosa Shootout, they came out with an all win record. The Indians continued on their war path as they crushed La Veta at home one Friday night. As they traveled to South Park the following Saturday, they overcame South Park on their South Park’s own home turf. The victories did not end there. The girls loaded the bus again the following Friday and Saturday to face the Center Vikings and the Del Norte Tigers. Away from Indian Territory they were once again triumphant. Last weekend with the games split, one home and one away, the Lady Indians prepared hard. Friday night they faced Crested Butte resulting in an immense win. Saturday they loaded the bus for Custer County. The game may have been slow and low scoring in comparison to the previous games, but the end result, the win, was what was intended.  On Tuesday, January 25th, the Indians played a tough game against Pagosa. On Saturday, January 29th, they will face-off with the Center Viking yet again. Come out and support your Lady Indians!
